Studying in the Visual & Creative Arts Program at Sheridan College has given me a better insight into what I want to do in the future. Ever since I was a child, I have been highly interested in something graphical, whatever on a cartoon sticker, an animation poster, a notebook with cool a design on the cover or a pencil case with cute designs. I collected them and wanted to be one of the graphic designers that created these. While growing up, I acquired an artistic foundation in high school and I enrolled Visual & Creative Arts program at Sheridan College. Over three years in the VCA program I learned a lot of different skills and I found out that even there are many individual courses, but they are actually connected to each other. I really happy with this program that includes traditional art, 2D, 3D to digital work. I love traditional painting and drawing and use computer software to create the graphic design as well. Therefore, I want to make my designs in multiple mediums, and express my ideas in a better way and more visually.

Last year, I became interested in surface design and spent much of my spare time looking at artists’ designs. I decided to do a series of surface design by using watercolour and ink. I will create a digital version of my design and keep working on it. The digital design is going to be the basic element that I will apply into a different substance. The reason why I use watercolour and ink as my original work is because these materials are very flexible. You cannot always control everything when you are crating design. Sometimes, a good artwork is the one that you never expect to be, and accidents in art are beautiful. In this way, my creative process is infinite. Working on the original design on digital computer software further is because I want to use the design in a multifarious way. Digital work can really get into details and it can be refined in many time. It looks more professional on the screen than on paper.

Currently, I am working on bedding design. This series of bedding is based on themes of nature. I will create three different but related design patterns. These designs are going to be printed or sewn into bed sheet, pillowcase or cushion. The challenge of this project is contained in the question “what will be the best way to print the design on the fabric?”  I am not sure if I should find a manufacturer to make it or if I should to consider.  sew everything myself. If I send it to a manufacturer, the cost and quality of production are two main issues to consider. On the other hand, If all the designs are handmade, it’s going to be a ton of work, and handmade work is not perfect. There are some of the issues I am confronting. Hopefully, I will find out the best solution to these problems and make my project a success.
